Holiday Trash Collection 2024 for Christmas and Yard Waste

For Christmas and yard waste, special collection days will be observed on December 26 and 27, 2024. This is a great opportunity to clean up your yard and get rid of any holiday decorations that are no longer needed.

Make sure to have your trash and yard waste out by 6am on these special collection days to ensure it gets picked up. You can also check the city's website for any specific guidelines or restrictions on what can be collected.

Yard waste collection will be available for all residents, and you can put out up to 5 bags or bundles of leaves and branches. Just be sure to tie them up with twine or string so they don't get loose on the way to the dump.

If your garbage collection date falls on a holiday, you should place your can by the curb the evening before the next business day. This is because collection days will be delayed by one day in observance of the holiday.

The holidays that affect garbage collection include New Year's Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20), Memorial Day (May 26), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day (September 1), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving (November 27-28), and Christmas (December 25).

You can put your yardwaste in paper yardwaste bags and it will be collected, but make sure to use your regular black lid waste cart for yardwaste as well, since it won't be composted.

In the spring and fall, unlimited paper yardwaste bags are collected without stickers, but bundles of brush still require stickers. This is a great time to get some extra compost made from your yardwaste.

If you have a Christmas tree, you can either take it to a collection site where it will be put to a beneficial use, or cut it up and put it in your black lid waste cart.

Christmas Tree Collection is a breeze, thanks to the city's collection sites. You can drop off your tree at one of these sites and know it will be put to good use.

To prepare your tree for collection, simply remove all decorations. That's it! No need to do anything else.

If you don't use a collection site, you can cut up your tree to fit in your black lid waste cart. The branches can be trimmed off and tied up in a bundle, then collected with a sticker applied.

The trunk of your tree can go straight into the cart, no fuss.

During the spring and fall yardwaste collection season, the City collects unlimited paper yardwaste bags without requiring stickers.

You can use your regular black lid waste cart for yardwaste at the same time, but material in the waste cart won't be composted.

All yardwaste for this collection must be in paper yardwaste bags, not plastic bags, trash cans, or bundles of brush.

Bundles of brush will still need to be stickered, even during the spring and fall collection season.

The collected paper yardwaste bags will be composted to make Oma-Gro compost.
