In many cities, stickers are used to indicate which trash pickup service a home is subscribed to. This can be as simple as a sticker on the trash can lid or a more elaborate system with different colored stickers for different services.

Some cities use stickers to indicate special services like bulk pickup or yard waste collection. In these cases, the stickers serve as a quick visual cue for the trash collectors to know what type of service is needed.

By using stickers, cities can streamline their trash pickup process and make it more efficient. This can also help reduce confusion and errors when it comes to collecting the right type of trash.

Types of Trash Decals

There are two types of trash decals available in Charlottesville. You can purchase annual trash decals from the Treasurer's Office in the City Hall Lobby.

Annual trash decals can only be bought from the Treasurer's Office in the City Hall Lobby, not from convenience stores or grocery stores.

Annual trash decals are a convenient alternative to individual trash stickers for weekly collection.

They're valid for one fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30, so you only need to purchase one per year.

You'll need to buy a separate decal for each trash container you plan to use.

Annual trash decals can only be purchased from the Treasurer's Office in the City Hall Lobby.

Each decal will bear the address for which it was purchased, so make sure to get the right one for your location.

You can't use an annual trash decal at a different address than the one it's registered to.

Quarterly Trash Decals

If you live in the Downtown and Uptown Area of Charlottesville, you have a choice between using individual trash stickers or quarterly decals for your trash collection.

You can use individual stickers, which are sold in two sizes, 13-gallon and 32-gallon, for $1.05 and $2.10 each, respectively.

Individual stickers must be affixed to your trash container or bag, and the size of the sticker must match the size of the container or bag.

Quarterly decals, on the other hand, can be placed on cans or wheeled carts.

For more information on quarterly decals, you can visit the Treasurer’s Trash, Recycling, and Leaf Collection webpage.
