To recycle your polystyrene foam, look for a symbol with a "6" inside a triangle on the product, often found at the bottom.

The Jefferson Township Transfer Center in Osseo accepts foam products, including foam foodservice items like cups, plates, and bowls, as well as large foam items like packaging for electronics.

Foam products must be rinsed or wiped clean before being dropped off.

You can drop off your foam at the Jefferson Township Transfer Center, located at 3255 Pioneer Road in Osseo, during hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The Dart Container Corporation has also opened a recycling drop-off site for polystyrene foam at its facility in North Aurora, Illinois, the first such site in the state.

Make sure the foam bears the No. 6 stamp, is clean, and is in a clear plastic bag to be accepted for recycling.

The collected foam is compacted and shipped to companies that convert it into new products, such as plastic lumber and picture frames.

The Dart North Aurora site is open to the public and businesses, offering a better option than a landfill for disposing of foam.
