In York County, residents have access to curbside trash collection services provided by the York County Solid Waste Authority. The authority offers a convenient and efficient way to dispose of household waste.
Trash collection in York County typically occurs on a weekly basis, with residents receiving a 64-gallon trash cart. This cart is used to collect non-recyclable waste, which is then taken to the county's landfill for disposal.
Residents can also participate in the county's recycling program, which accepts a variety of materials including paper, plastic, glass, and metal. By recycling, residents can help reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill and conserve natural resources.
The county's recycling program is designed to be easy to use, with designated collection days and facilities available throughout the county.

Daily Load Limits
When you're taking out the trash, it's essential to know the daily load limits to avoid any issues. You can dispose of household garbage large and bulky in one '4x6' truck bed or equivalent on a trailer.
Construction and demolition waste, on the other hand, is limited to 1/2 '4x6' truck bed or equivalent on a trailer. This helps keep our streets and alleys clear.

Information
You can place trash bags/cans at the designated pick-up point by 6:00 a.m. on your two trash collection days each week.
During extreme weather conditions, the City may grant the hauler an early start time of 5:00 a.m., so it's a good idea to set items out after 5 p.m. the night prior to collection.
Household trash must be placed in securely tied trash bags or inside plastic or metal trash cans with a lid and handles. Trash containers and bags must be specifically sold for the purpose of trash storage.

Maximum can and bag size is 32 gallons, and not more than 40 pounds when filled. Oversized and "contractor" trash bags, large totes/cans, and indoor kitchen/bathroom type cans are not allowed.
Containers with attached lids, metal/plastic drums, and other non-authorized containers pose a risk of hand and back injuries to refuse collectors. They may be disposed of as illegally placed trash.
To report a missed collection, call the Large-Item Service at 717-843-1240 (Mon-Thurs 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) or Public Works at 717-849-2245 during regular business hours.
Republic Services is the City's contracted hauler for curbside collections through April 30, 2025.
