As a postal employee, you're likely aware of the benefits that come with working for the US Postal Service. One of the most valuable benefits is the life insurance options available to you and your family.
The US Postal Service offers two types of life insurance: Basic Life Insurance and Optional Life Insurance. The Basic Life Insurance is provided at no cost to you and pays a death benefit of $25,000 to your beneficiary.
If you want to supplement the Basic Life Insurance, you can purchase Optional Life Insurance, which offers a death benefit of up to $250,000. This insurance is available to you and your family members, and you can choose from various coverage levels to suit your needs.

You can choose from three FEGLI options: Option A, Option B, and Option C. These options provide additional coverage beyond the basic life insurance provided by the USPS.

FEGLI Option A – Standard provides an additional $10,000 in coverage. This is a straightforward option that can provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
FEGLI Option B allows you to add coverage equal to up to five units or multiples of your annual rate of basic pay. This option gives you more flexibility to customize your coverage to your needs.
FEGLI Option C provides coverage to your family members, and when you elect for this option, all eligible family members are automatically enrolled. This means you can ensure your spouse and children are protected in the event of your passing.
You can choose one or more of the FEGLI options in addition to Basic life insurance, but keep in mind that existing employees who have waived FEGLI Basic or want to change or add options must wait for a FEGLI open season or provide evidence of a qualifying life event.

This no-medical-exam life insurance offer is a great perk, especially if you're new to the USPS and haven't had time to get settled. You can access your benefits without having to deal with complex paperwork or medical exams.
