History and Operations
MV Sirena Seaways was ordered by Lloyd Sardegna Compagnia Di Navigazione in 1999 and was initially planned to operate between Livorno and Sardinia.
The ship was launched under the name GOLFO DEI DELFINI in 2001, but its builders went bankrupt in 2002. It was then sold to DFDS Tor Line A/S in the same year.

The ship was rebuilt and refurbished, and in 2003, it began operating between Esbjerg and Harwich. It was renamed DANA SIRENA in 2002 and later SIRENA SEAWAYS in 2013.
Sirena Seaways was serviced and repainted in February 2013, and during this time, it was renamed Sirena Seaways. However, its service was disrupted in 2013 when it collided with the dock at Parkeston Quay, resulting in puncture holes in the hull.
The ship has been deployed on various routes over the years, including the Paldiski-Kapellskär route between Estonia and Sweden, which it began operating on in 2014. It was also chartered by Brittany Ferries in 2015, where it operated under the name Baie de Seine until 2020.
History
The Sirena Seaways has had a long and varied history. It was initially ordered by Lloyd Sardegna Compagnia Di Navigazione in 1999 for services between Livorno and Sardinia.
The ferry was launched in 2001 under the name GOLFO DEI DELFINI and was later sold to DFDS Tor Line A/S in 2002. It was renamed DANA SIRENA in 2002 and anchored at Rönne due to Polish export regulations.

The ship was rebuilt and refitted in 2003 to accommodate extra passenger space and was introduced on the Esbjerg-Harwich route. It was later renamed SIRENA SEAWAYS in 2013 and serviced and repainted.
In 2014, the Harwich to Esbjerg route ceased due to loss of passenger traffic, and the Sirena Seaways was deployed on the Paldiski-Kapellskär route between Estonia and Sweden. It briefly entered service between Klaipėda and Karlshamn after receiving new gas-filters.
The ferry was chartered by Brittany Ferries in 2015 and operated between Portsmouth and Le Havre, as well as between Portsmouth and Spain. It was later returned to DFDS Seaways in 2020 and repainted in the new DFDS color scheme.
Harwich and Esbjerg Ferry Service Ends
The Harwich and Esbjerg ferry service ended in 2014 after 134 years of operation. The Sirena Seaways left Harwich for the last time on September 28, marking the end of an era for the Essex port.

The ferry service was first introduced in 1880, when the first DFDS Service arrived in Harwich. This was a significant milestone for the port, which had been serving as a vital transportation hub for many years.
New EU sulphur rules being introduced in January 2015 would have meant additional costs of around £2m a year for the ferry service. As a result, the service was discontinued.
Job losses at the port of Harwich were believed to be around 50 as a result of the service ending. This was a significant impact on the local community.
Stena Line continues to offer ferry services from Harwich to the Hook of Holland and Rotterdam. However, the company estimated that the more expensive low sulphur fuel will cost them an extra £41 million a year.
