The MV Regent Sky is a cruise ship that's been making waves in the maritime world. It was built in 2009 and measures 81.5 meters in length, with a gross tonnage of 1,600 tons.
Its story is one of abandonment, a fate that's been met by many vessels over the years. The ship was originally built for the Regent Group, a company that operates a fleet of luxury cruise ships.
The MV Regent Sky was designed to accommodate up to 50 passengers and 20 crew members, offering a luxurious experience on the high seas.
MV Regent Sky
The MV Regent Sky was an unfinished cruise ship that traveled to several locations during its construction.
It was initially being built as the ferry Stena Baltica, one of four sisters planned for Stena Line.
Regency Cruises purchased the ship while it was still incomplete, but unfortunately, its new owners filed for bankruptcy in 1995.

Turbulent History

Regent Sky's history is a wild ride. The ferry company that originally ordered her, Stena Line, cancelled the order in 1986 due to several long delays.
The unfinished hull was later purchased by A. Lelakis, owner of Regency Cruises, in 1989. He planned to convert it into a cruise ship.
A $200 million construction project was undertaken to lengthen the hull by 50 meters and add 7,000 tons of steel. This transformed the vessel into what it would have been if completed.
Regency Cruises ceased operations in 1995, leaving the Regent Sky 60% finished. The vessel was seized by the National Bank of Greece and Hellenic Industrial Development Bank in July 1999.
The Regent Sky has been stuck in various lay-up berths ever since, including Perama, Ambelakia, and Kinossoura. All attempts to sell the vessel at auction have failed.
It's a shame, really, because the Regent Sky had the potential to be a beautiful ship. There were even renderings of the completed ship, one of which depicted her as Zoe, with a white hull and red funnel.
