Compass Cargo Airlines has become the 58th active Boeing 747 operator, marking a significant milestone for the Bulgarian-based cargo airline.

The airline welcomed its first Boeing 747 aircraft, a Boeing 747-400F, registered as LZ-CJA, which flew from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Sofia Airport on July 19, 2023.

This aircraft is also Bulgaria's first Boeing 747, a notable achievement for the country's aviation industry.

Compass Cargo Airlines is one of 68 airlines to have the Boeing 747 in its fleet, with a total of 580 aircraft of the type assigned to different airlines.

The aircraft, unit 28616, was previously flown by SunExpress and arrived in Sofia, Bulgaria on April 4, 2024, after being converted by Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI) in Dothan, Alabama in September 2021.

Compass Cargo Airlines has acquired two 747-400 freighters this week, including a second one from ACT Airlines, which previously operated the plane under contract to Qatar Airways Cargo.

Compass Cargo Airlines has added a second 737-800SF to its fleet with the delivery of unit 28616.
