The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company has a rich history that spans over 160 years. The company's roots date back to 21 May 1858, when "The Caucasus and Mercury" Joint-Stock Company was established in Baku.

On 6 June 1920, the Chairmen of the Council of People's Commissars of Azerbaijan SSR signed a decree nationalizing the Caspian merchant fleet, which consisted of 390 vessels.

The public fleet included 106 sailships, a testament to the company's early emphasis on maritime trade. By 1923, the Public Joint-Stock Caspian Shipping Company was created, marking a significant milestone in the company's evolution.

In 2013, the country's two largest fleets were merged, and the "Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping" Closed Joint-Stock Company was established on 22 October 2013.
